Prêt-à-porter
This piece belongs to the prêt-à-porter line of the Wearable Sculpture collection. In this series, the theme of Post-Colonial Gold becomes visible.
The white surface appears broken open, revealing a fragment of blue porcelain beneath. The object feels as if a layer of material has been removed to expose a hidden core.
The contrast between the matte white volume, the gold along the fracture and the fragile blue creates a small archaeological scene. What once belonged to a larger utilitarian object reappears here as a fragment, newly framed within a sculptural form.
Within the idea of Post-Colonial Gold, gold no longer functions merely as a symbol of wealth, but as a material that reframes history. The gold-coloured surface in this collection is therefore intentionally “vegan gold” — a gold that requires no mining, exploitation or ecological damage, while proposing an alternative understanding of value.
These wearable sculptures therefore function as anti-jewellery: objects that do not only adorn, but also question value, origin and meaning.
In the museum collection, these questions unfold further into a larger counter-archive, in which spiritual values are placed in relation to material ones.
