Conversation Pieces / Post-Colonial Gold

Fragments of History is a new capsule collection by Annelies Nuy, launched during Milan Fashion Week 2026.

The collection consists of striking wearable objects constructed from existing ceramic and porcelain shards. Fragments that once formed part of tableware or decorative objects are given a new function on the body.

The pieces are genderless and are not designed for one fixed way of wearing them. They are attached with magnets and can therefore be positioned in different places on clothing. Not a traditional brooch that adapts to the garment, but an autonomous object that claims its own presence.

This is where the shift begins: the shard is neither restored nor concealed. The break, the material and its previous history remain visible. What was once part of a functional object becomes a sculptural Conversation Piece.

Within Fragments of History, the object goes one step further. Each piece has its own ID and QR code, turning it into a physical point of access to a digital layer. The accessory is not only worn; it can also open up information about art, heritage, ownership and public visibility.

For this capsule, five Conversation Pieces are connected to five fragments from Nola Hatterman’s Op het terras (On the Terrace), 1930, in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The connection is not based on reproduction: the artwork is not printed or depicted on the accessory. Instead, the object becomes an entry point to the work itself and to a wider digital environment in which dispersed, hidden and missing parts of an oeuvre can be brought back into view.

The result is a different kind of accessory: not a carrier of a logo, but a carrier of access.
