Wearable Sculpture — Post-Colonial Gold
This wearable sculpture contains a fragment of blue-and-white ceramic embedded in gold. What once circulated as a luxurious trade object now appears as an archaeological trace.
By isolating the fragment, the ring reveals the hidden histories of objects that travelled through colonial trade networks. Gold no longer functions as a symbol of wealth, but as a frame that makes these histories visible.
Created in dialogue with the work of Kara Walker, the piece acts as a small counter-archive — reminding us that behind the aesthetics of luxury often lie stories of power, exploitation, and global exchange.
Within the Post-Colonial Gold series, gold shifts from material wealth to human meaning. The ring becomes a portable sculpture in which history continues to resonate.
